Lesson 3 – Taking and Entering Reference Measurements (4:35)

Watch the video to learn how to take a reference measurement using best practices, and how to enter that measurement into DPD2CC®.

Taking a Free Chlorine DPD

  1. Rinse the sample vial with process water three times using the sample valve on the bottom right of the flow cell.
  2. Take the sample and make a note of the time it was taken using the clock on the Neon® or Neon® Multi.
  3. Wipe the outside of the sample vial with a soft tissue and insert into colorimeter.
  4. Take a “blank” measurement.
  5. Add the DPD reagent for free chlorine.
  6. Carefully invert the vial 10 times (do not vigorously shake!).
  7. Insert the vial into the colorimeter and take a reading.
  8. Open DPD2CC® on your smart phone or tablet.
  9. Press “Start new measurement” button.
  10. Enter the date and time the sample was taken and press “Continue.”
  11. Enter the measurement value into the “Disinfectants (FCl / ClO2)” box and press “OK.”

For other measurement parameters, these steps are mostly the same, but there may be additional reagents added or a reaction timer. Follow the instructions of your reference measurement system.
